Psychedelic clothes inspired on the legendary Walt Disney 1940 musical picture ‘Fantasia’ has been released as part of a playful collaboration between British designer Stella McCartney and Disney.
To introduce a new generation to the “illusory universe” of Walt Disney Animation Studios through “elevated collectable wardrobe staples,” the unisex capsule combines fashion and fantasy with the humorous and cheeky characters of the Walt Disney Animation Studios.
Rare Disney posters from the 1940s are printed on limited-edition repurposed old-stock silks from the LVMH Nona Source, a start-up that participated in the group’s incubator, and bodycon knits are adorned with PVC-free sequins. The collection is made up of 78 percent eco-friendly materials including regenerated, repurposed, and recycled fibres.
A few other standouts include organic cotton fringed kaftans with warped and remixed Disney graphics that give the appearance of patched-together vintage tees, organic cotton denim with vintage-style washes on utility shirts, boyfriend jeans, and a hooded jacket, all of which feature the brand’s new Stella logo and Mickey prints on the back.
As well as Mickey and broomstick-man visuals from the film’s The Sorcerer’s Apprentice segment, knitwear with blush satyr scenery from The Pastoral Symphony, and loungewear styles ranging from large organic cotton jersey sweatshirts to vests with Fantasia prints are available.
The collection also includes vegan accessories, including a black velvet hard-body shoulder bag shaped like Mickey’s head with chain detail and an Alter Mat vegan leather strap, as well as Falabella mini and shoulder bags that feature Mickey as rainbow patches and crystal embellishments, and Logo totes that feature a new all-over black Mickey drawing print, among other designs. In addition, there are black recycled nylon rucksacks and camera bags with white Mickey motifs on the front and the back.
The Loop sneaker is reimagined in pastel pink with rainbow Mickey Mouse graphics and all-over monochrome designs, while the brand’s famous Elyse platform shoes are adorned with Fantasia prints, and the Gaia gladiator sandals have been updated with a white drawn Mickey print on the platform.
This will be followed in autumn 2022 by a capsule collection for Stella McCartney Kids, which will be based on the unisex collection for spring/summer 2022.
