GUSTAVE & cie would like to take you on a journey from Earth to the moon with our new collection of 12-hour single-hand watches assembled in France. Thanks to the astronomic complication of movement, the dial indicates the phases of the moon with each instant. More than a watch, the creators bring you a true spatial escape by initiating you to the lunar influences listed in the booklet that accompanies each watch.
Each model of the GUSTAVE & cie watch collection honors an illustrious Frenchman. Our collection “Georges” is a dedication to the Parisian director and illusionist Georges Méliès. At the origin of the first cinematographic special effects, this trained magician invented special effects and laid the foundations of modern cinema. In 1902, he produced his masterpiece “Voyage to the Moon”. Yes indeed, the first science-fiction movie was French! In an emblematic scene, we see a team of astronauts projected by a cannon into the eye of the moon…
But the first name “Georges” will be linked a second time to this mystical star thanks to an event held in Burgundy. In May 1971, the Senator-Mayor of Nuits-Saint-Georges, Bernard Barbier, offered the astronaut David Scott a few bottles of wine from the Cuvée Terre-Lune 1969. Two months later, Scott placed a label from this Burgundy creation in a crater and named it the Crater Saint-Georges.
